Copenhagen, here I come!
Yes, this afternoon Jay and I leave for Copenhagen to be amongst the important people deciding the fate of the 2016 Olympics.  Chicago?  Rio?  Madrid?  Tokyo?  Where will they be held?  I’ll find out on Friday and hopefully get to celebrate Chicago’s victory (my mom’s on the Chicago Olympic Committee - how cool is that?!) with the likes of the Obamas, Oprah and lots of other...

I'm blue dabadeedabadaa
Love cowl necks and since it’s a frozen custard in my office, I thought I should dress warmly.  Even this wasn’t warm enough.  I should have worn tights and a scarf too.  UGH AC. Simple and understated; I’m barely even accessorizing! blue cowl neck sweater - Express, on sale - $20 b&w skirt - Target - $15 patent leather belt - thrifted - $1 patent leather pumps - Nine...

How far we’ve come… my roommate and I. Meet Rose.  She and I have lived together in some form or another since our first year at Barnard; from just a few rooms down to suite mates throughout college to travel buddies in Europe to apartment mates in Astoria and apartment mates now, it’s been many years.  And we’ve seen each other through MANY fashion crises as well as...

the jolly green giant goes to work
Or green bean legs at the office.  I got a lot of fabulous comments on these lime green tights both before work from Jay as well as at work from my co-workers.  I mean, they are kinda wild.  But, Fridays have turned slightly more casual at my office so I’m pushing the limits a bit.  With the all black skirt and sweater and nice silk scarf, I think they’re ok.  Keep in mind some people...

a pop for glam?
This is the second time maybe ever I’ve rocked a popped collar.  The first time was a few weeks ago here.  I feel like it totally glams up this jacket, which is totally one of my all time favorites.  I tried to go streamlined with this outfit; I’m wearing a few simple pieces of jewelry/accessories such as the belt, which is actually the first time I’ve worn a belt with this...

little girl with a touch of grown up
This outfit has all the elements of a business casual look but looks really girly; little girl, actually.  I think it’s the strap on the shoes paired with the cut of the dress.  Also, I played with the length of my blazer sleeves and rolled them up but I think I probably would have kept a bit more of a serious look had I left them down.  Check out my necklace: I wore it yesterday as a...

neutrals with a pop and a twist
Wearing several new (thrifted) pieces here for the first time: skirt, originally from Zara; Navy belt; and gold chain bracelet (really a necklace). I don’t usually do neutrals quite as skin-colored as the skirt as they tend to wash me out completely but because it’s a skirt and I can wear something bolder on top and because I love the flowy, silkiness of the fabric, I had to get it. ...

gasp!
Black, brown and navy together… I NEVER thought I would… but I did, and I kinda liked it. I usually wear things that accentuate my waist or legs or SOMEthing.  This outfit did no such thing but I liked that it was different in that way; flowy, straight, slightly old lady. black ruffled cardi - LOFT, with coupon - $45 navy ruffled tank - F21 - $15 brown pants - LOFT, on sale - $25...

I love this shirt of Jay’s… so I planned an outfit around it this weekend.  And yes, that’s a tie tied in a bow around my waist, vintage Thomas Pink, gifted by one of my best friends to me (as in, it’s not Jay’s too).

theme of the week: tunics and yellow pumps
I’m doing another tunic/dress (this one I do actually wear as a dress, although it’s a bit scandalous) tucked into my skirt.  And, I’m bringing out the yellow pumps for yet another time this week.  I bought this skirt last year (or the year before?) on sale at Banana and I love it.  It fits perfectly anf highlights all the right curves.  Check out the back and the way it hugs the...

green dream
After buying this skirt at The Dressing Room on Wednesday night, I absolutely had to wear it to work on Thursday (even though I bought it thinking it was more cocktail attire and not so much work-appropriate).  I tried smoothing out the wrinkles with some water, as the bf doesn’t exactly have an iron but I couldn’t exactly get it iron-smooth.  This jacket is the one that’s way...

what do work, fashism and the dressing room have...
A tunic; yes, I just learned what that is.  Not quite a dress, longer than a shirt: a tunic. Worn tucked into a skirt for the office here: And then in its full tunic glory to the fashism launch party: Where I modeled for Chris Reed who photographed me wearing this fabulous thrifted outfit, which I ended up purchasing for $30! IFB's dress up soiree: the recap
What a lovely evening of panel discussions, Q&A, meeting awesome bloggers I’ve been reading since I started this one, networking, fashion (oh the outfits!!!) and just overall good times. The evening began waiting in this line, where Becky from Gilding the Frilly and I recognized each other immediately from our blog photos and twitter chats and started the night off as buddies: Becky and...

sisterhood of the traveling skirt...
And what I wore to IFB’s Dress Up Soiree.  This skirt has a long history being passed through my group of girlfriends.  My friend Tania bought it one of our first weeks at Barnard.  When she tired of it, Michelle took it a few years later and wore it as a tube top for a while.  She recently moved out West and while cleaning out her wardrobe was getting rid of this awesome piece, which I of...

just to get through the day
This is what I wore just to get through yesterday so that I could go home (or to the bf’s rather) and change into my cocktail attire and attend IFB’s Dress Up Soiree.  I didn’t want to change the whole look and feel of my outfit from work to night, so I opted for the same blazer but with the sleeves rolled up for work and pants instead of the ridiculous/awesome sequined skirt I...

wwkw: weekend edition
What a weekend!  Friend in town, sailing team alumni regatta, old friends, college-style quarters, Chili’s with more friends on Sunday for greasy food, just all in all a good weekend. Friday and Saturday felt like full swing Fall, so I brought out this Marimekko jersey dress I bought in Finland over the summer.  I don’t actually like this bag with the outfit but I was too lazy to...

fashion's night in
As it turns out, I had completely forgotten I had dinner plans with two of my best friends last night, one of whom was coming in from out of town, and so I was only able to make it to a few Fashion’s Night Out events.  I swung by Saks way too early for any excitement and then over to St. John’s, where my friend and colleague is a regular, so we got some bubbly, desserts,...

it's business time
Not THAT kinda business time… I mean going to work, getting s*%t done kinda business time.  That’s how I feel in this outfit.  I wanted to play with masculine and feminine looks here: the structure of the shirt with the vest along with the pleated nature of the skirt is a feminine take on traditionally male attire.  The flirtier length of the skirt (yes, I’m showing just a tad...

falling into fall
Yesterday, I fell into Fall… hard.  Check out these autumnal colors and suede!!! I didn’t think I would let it happen to myself so fast, but this silk dress I bought at HousingWorks over the weekend seduced me.  Also, Jay convinced me to stay over at his place on Monday night and so I was working with whatever wardrobe options I had over there.  I feel like I often come up with the...

wwkw: weekend edition
I had a really lovely Labor Day weekend involving a BBQ at my place, hiking up at Sleeping Giant with some friends and then a full day with my boyfriend Jay on Monday.  We went to Whole Foods, got a bunch of cheeses and meets, olives and salad and spent an afternoon lounging around Central Park before going to see Inglorious Basterds (and then hopping over into Julie and Julia right...

something borrowed, something blue
Pretty much sums up this outfit, even though it’s not on my wedding day :-) And, the blue?  It’s actually borrowed too! I have to say, this is one of my proudest outfits to date, mostly because I’m wearing my boyfriend, Jay’s shirt, with a popped collar nonetheless.  I saw it lying on the stool in my room the other morning and I just love the colors so much (probably...

last chance whites substitute
So, I had this AMAZING white-on-white outfit planned for yesterday: white pants, this white blazer, a ruffled bluish gray top, silver pumps, these necklaces - it was gonna look SICK and round out the “end of summer” perfectly.  And then, my white pants weren’t back from the dry cleaners in time.  And, I was at the bf’s.  So, I had to improvise.  Although the linen pants...

You can search this guide by city and/or state for the optimal vintage shopping experience.  Manhattan has SO many options to choose from, I feel a bit dizzy going through them all.  I best get started this afternoon… Thrift and vintage stores are GREAT places to find reasonably priced and awesomely funky purses, scarves and belts.

revitalize: go to wedding, go to work
This dress was my go-to summer wedding dress last year.  I think I’ve worn it to four or five weddings over the past two summers.  I wanted to get another use out of it (revitalize!) before fall so I worked it up for the office, adding the seersucker blazer, peep toes and funky shiny necklace (from my mom’s collection from like 30 years ago).  Also, the dress made for a lovely outfit...

christmas in september?
Or just a thinking about red and green in a new way?  I’m really trying to push my fashion boundaries, think differently about color and patterns, mix, mismatch and try new combinations.  The whole red and green thing was a bit shocking to me at first but I saw a few ladies do it fabulously so I decided to give it a shot.  I like how even though the scarf and jacket are the traditional...

i've got my eye on these
I walk by several shoe stores on my way two and from work each morning. This is dangerous. These are from Aerosoles, which isn’t usually my go-to shoe place but I’m really liking this style. At first I was thinking grey… but now I’m really digging the brown. For fall? With all my brown wool skirts?  Super cute.  I’m waiting for them to send me some kinda...
