just a tad mismatchy; Kasmira-inspired
I love how What I Wore Today’s Kasmira can look completely fabulous and funkily mismatched at the same time. Patterns with patterns, unconventional color combinations, a pair of lime green shoes just to colorise an outfit, etc. Check out these favorites of mine from Kasmira:

back to school special
It’s all the primary colors and hint of brown that make me feel like I’m a little girl on her way to a first day of grade school. I feel pretty, in that fourth grade kind of way!
jacket - new from Tristan, on sale - $50 dress - Marimekko from Anthropologie - $120 belt - Calvin Klein from Burlington coat Factory - $15 pumps - Nine West, on sale - $30 necklace - from my...

14 too many?
I told someone the other day that I kept 15 pairs of shoes under my desk at work (there are only 12 in this photo, including rain boots and the gladiators I wore to work today, but not to worry, I have a few extra in my drawer); she looked at me like I had two heads and said she kept 4-5 and thought that was a lot. But here’s the deal: I don’t walk to work in the shoes I’m going to wear. I can’t...

summer breeze...
makes me feel fine Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
What a fantastically cheeseball song and totally in my head after watching a hilarious episode of How I Met Your Mother, where it comes up several times. That must have been why I chose this super light, summer breezy top to wear yesterday…
I got this for my friend’s wedding in college but I’ve taken a hiatus from...

academichic's color review symposium: wwkw in the... →
Academichic took reader submissions putting color theory into practice in their Color Review Symposium Part I. Check out the link for a lot of great outfits and fabulous color combinations (I even got a shoutout or two from the lovely ladies of Academichic!).

geometry is fun
Especially when it involves prints and clothes and colors!
I had another “stand in front of the closet for 15 minutes unable to decide what to wear, take half your things out of the closet” kinda mornings yesterday and finally came up with this. Now that I have a blog, I definitely feel more pressure to look put together, not even for other people, more for myself. I feel like I...
i'm a weardrobe winner!
Just logged onto Weardrobe to see that I won the best day to night outfit contest! How excited am I?!?! Here are my winning looks (pretty familiar, cuz I wore these to the office/out only last week!):
Apparently, I win a dress from 365hangers, which is a new site that sells a different look “online sample sale” style for 5 different body shapes every day of the year. Pretty cool,...

slim pickins
I’ve never been a fan of mixing black and brown or black and navy… until recently. Now, I think black with brown or navy actually looks really classy instead of mismatched and so it’s going to be a wardrobe staple.
I put this outfit together for (business casual) Friday at the bf’s with the random assortment of items I had at his place and I think it actually turned out...

unlayering
I attended a “cocktail attire” fundraiser party last night but didn’t feel like going home to change after work so I needed to wear something corporate appropriate that could magically transform into an evening-out later on. I think this has been my MO all summer.
I bought this one-shouldered silk blouse just the other day at Tristan down the block from my office on super sale...

transparency at the office
I’m talking about my blouse, not anything legal or compliance-oriented! I bought this at Filene’s Basement senior year in college for a friend’s wedding in case I didn’t find anything else so I’ve had it for a while. I like pairing it with a patterned cami underneath to add color and a layer of texture to it. This skirt is also super old - a Forever 21 purchase...
what's in your weardrobe? →
Yes, weardobe… a site for you to upload photos and catalog all the fabulous things you’re wearing AND get inspired by all the amazing, fabulous things other users are wearing. That’s definitely my favorite part.
Skirts as shirts, pants as belts, shirts as dresses, I’ve seen it all and seen it all look GOOD on weardrobe. They also have weekly outfit contests where you...

come sail away with me
I woke up grumpy, tired and totally uninspired this morning and stood in front of my closet for a long while before coming up with this outfit. It was definitely a struggle, but I love that I was finally able to include this jacket on the blog. It’s one of my mom’s from the 70’s and even though it’s a bit big, I love it and am always trying to find new ways to style it up...

hats: the latest and greatest craze →
This is a great article in the WSJ on the history of hats. How fabulous that they’re back in style, especially for fair-skinned people like yours truly who can use them not only as a fashion statement but as protection from the hot summer sun.

wwkw: weekend edition
Bar hopping Chicago style. New skirt from Forever 21 (yay $15 skirts!), paired with bracelets borrowed (permanently) from my mom’s jewelry collection and this amazing Björn Weckström bronze belt my mom gave me a few years back when it became a bit too funky for her.
bf took this at a really weird angle… my head looks huge!
I REALLY wanted to wear my new super-high heels with...

wwkw: weekend edition
Chicago Air & Water show style. My mom bought me this Marimekko dress last year in Finland and while I love it, I felt like I needed to funk it up a bit because the style it a bit young and the waist comes up a bit high on me. And so, I added this fabulous $1 thrift store belt and a Kalevala necklace. The hat is my Dad’s (minus the scarf, which is my mom’s which I added to...

channeling rebs
For those of you who don’t know her, she’s one of the preppier people I know (and embraces it, loves it, owns it) and this outfit was inspired by her and more specifically, her comment: “aren’t sweater vests a basic?” Well Rebs, if you’re reading this, it isn’t quite a sweater vest, it’s a tank top that I’m wearing as a vest, and although I...

slippin' around the office
I’m a bit behind on posting… It’s just been crazy. Period. So on Friday, I wanted to wear this adorable slip dress out after work to drinks and dancing, but it’s a bit much to wear by itself to the office, considering it’s made from an actual slip with lace, seethrough boobs, etc. And so I threw on this black and white cardigan with a red belt and heels for more of a...

eighties pop star
Every time I wear this jacket, I get a variety of comments: “you look like you belong in a Michael Jackson video” “you look like a racecar driver” “is that a track jacket?”
etc…
I love that this jacket elicits so many comments and that it’s so versatile. Firstly, black and white pieces are great because you can wear them with so many different...

like a grandmother's couch
That’s how I describe this jacket. I bought it at Filene’s Basement in college several years ago and I think my friend bought the same one. Thing is, I haven’t worn in forever because it’s way too big. I think I may have bought it a size too big to begin with and then I lost a few lbs after graduating so now I just swim in it. So… I played around with it and...

pastel me you love me
I’ve had this aqua knit for a while but wore it a lot the last few summers and kind of tired of it. I decided to bring it back with a bit of flare; instead of using the aqua knit tie for my waist, I opted for this pretty silk belt I got from the sale bin in Gap several years ago for a few bucks. I added a really simple multi-colored pearl necklace, pearl earrings and silver pumps to tie it...

flower power
This outfit was inspired by my new $15 sweater that I bought on Sunday night at yes, BJ’s (like Costco or Sam’s Club), and this post by AcademiChic, where she does the ribbon-as-a-belt-with-a-flower thing. When I saw that, I had to try it myself. I threw on the yellow pumps as a nice contrast to the blue and to complement the hints of yellow and orange in the flower. I went really...

playing with the color wheel
I wanted to play around with the color wheel a bit after reading the Academichic ladies’ fabulous post… and so I went with the two-thirds orange and purple route. I like how the cardigan is sheer and so the orange and purple almost make a third color as well. Since the skirt is so busy, I toned down on accessories.
sheer cardigan - Victoria’s Secret - $40 orange cami -...

wwkw: weekend edition
Visited my boyfriend’s family in New Jersey this weekend and needed an outfit that would be ok in Jersey Shore traffic for several hours, for eating lobsters and other delicious seafood that evening, and ok for getting puppy dog hair all over it. This is what I came up with (check out the awesome belt I snagged at a Chicago thrift store for $1!!!).
shorts - Target - $15 navy tank -...
