colorful linen = summertime
This is probably the most summery suit I own - aquamarine linen… in both color and fabric, I’m not sure you can really get more summer than that, right? Interestingly, my Godfather gave me this suit a few years back… and totally got my size and everything right! He has a good eye, doesn’t he? I paired it with a more neutral scarf so as not to go too overboard with...
it's time to step up your bargain shopping skills!
Because, according to AM New York, stores like Banana, Gap, Macy’s, Kmart, etc. are setting their prices based on neighborhood. Apparently the same skirt at the Banana in the World Financial Center on sale for $39.99 was discounted even further to $33.99 in Banana’s SoHo store only two miles away.
What does this mean for bargain hunters like us? Know your favorite stores, think...

tie-dyed and belted
I hadn’t worn my red pants in a while and thought it was time to do so, but I also wanted to summerfy them as much as possible, so I went with the red, white and black look again, but this time with some tie-dyed pinks to bring it all together.
I love this scarf. First and foremost because my Finnish grandma made it for me in the hospital many years ago before she passed away and so it...

the test drive
When I was debating keeping my new, fabulous, sexy, HOT Nine West 4 inch heels, but wasn’t sure if I could actually spend more than 10 minutes walking in them, my roommate suggested I take them for a test drive around my office. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to pull that off. 4 inch gladiators + my corporate office… not so much. But, I think I made them work (and work...

I love their use of fabrics, plates, cups and saucers to demonstrate the color wheel. Academia, creativity and a whole lotta fun!

wwkw: weekend edition
Saturday 3PM til midnight picnic in Astoria Park… this is what I wore… bright colors tied together with some gold. Considering that I was at the boyfriend’s the night before with a very limited selection of pinicy attire, I think this outfit turned out quite well. It may be a bit more stroll around Soho than picnic, but whatever, we did that before the picnic anyways.

cat on a hot tin roof inspired date night
And here’s my date night outfit. Yes, this gorgeous, 50’s style, Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof slip was hiding under my dress all along! I used the same purple ribbon that I used as a belt from my work-wear outfit to hike up the dress (to show the lace on the slip) and even kept the bow in the back… and I’m not usually a bow kinda gal. This and the outfit I...

pre-date night... and by that i mean work-wear
I put this outfit together on Friday because I was going out on a date night with my boyfriend and I had a really great outfit planned involving this great dress I bought for super cheap at a Chicago thrift store a few weeks ago, but I didn’t really feel like bringing the date-night outfit to work, changing in the bathroom, etc…. such a hassle. So instead, I played around with how I...

patent leather party
The belt, the shoes, the bag… this one is definitely all about the p-leather, and playing off of this fabulous skirt that I yanked off of the clearance rack at Express for $20!!!
This outfit worked well for me yesterday, as I had to go to work in it and then head over to a Planned Parenthood fundraiser at The Museum of Sex later that evening. I thought it transitioned well from work to...

the power suit
With SPICE! This isn’t actually a suit at all but a jacket from a pantsuit and skirt combined but I feel like I’m rocking a power suit in it and I love the frills and colors of the blouse underneath; picked that up at uber teenybopper store Mandee a few weeks ago and this is its first wear!
If you look closely at my legs, you may notice some bruises. Yes, those are from...

50s meet the 80s
That’s kind of how I feel about this outfit. The line—high waist, mid-calf skirt with the high collar neckline—is sort of 50s but the color scheme with the hot pink, black and white (and patent leather) is sorta 80s. Whatever it is, I kinda like it. And, these photos are taken from lower-than-normal angle so I look a bit willowy and like I might take off into flight or...

wwkw: weekend edition
Wore this out to dinner with 20 sailors after a long day of sailing at Larchmont Yacht Club… and then back to the Yacht Club for a SICK dance party (as you can see from some of my sweet dance moves below). I’m getting more creative with my outfits: my tube top is actually a skirt that has been passed around from friend to friend and come back to me (it was originally mine and bought...

Belts: how they can completely change an outfit. ... →
And, I highly suggest hitting up thrift stores and flea markets to get them good and cheap. I bought four belts at a Chicago thrift store a few weeks ago for… $4!!! (And I could have bought 10 more - they had a HUGE selection!)

Playin' with weeds
I’m learning that you can give your blazers/suit jackets a whole new look if you roll up the sleeves, especially if they have a lining that’s a different color/fabric from the actual jacket. This linen jacket is the perfect example; I rolled up the sleeves to discover a white and grey pinstriped lining, which looked kinda funky (and a little bit 80s, which I’m totally cool with)...

an american girl ii
This outfit is quite similar to one I wore a few weeks ago… the whole American Girl, red white and blue theme. I figured since I missed the 4th of July and have been gone from the States for a bit, I should remind everyone that although I’m Finnish, I’m American too :-) I especially love this red leather purse, which I picked up at a thrift store in Chicago a few weeks ago for...

first day back whites
Yesterday was my first day back at work after 11 days of awesomeness. It was definitely a tough day to come back, especially since I had my accounting class right after and until 9pm.
But, I did like throwing this outfit together at the boyfriend’s. The white skirt and white ruffled top almost look like a dress under the brown jacket. I snazzed the ensemble up with the gold belt. For...

wwkw: last day of an amazing vacation
Our flight left Krakow at 9:30pm on Sunday and so we had the whole day for exploring. Of course, it happened that Sunday was probably the most beautiful day weatherwise we had had, both in Finland and Poland.
I hadn’t yet worn this ruffled jersey dress, which I often like to wear out in the evenings with a stand-out necklace to show off a lower-than-usual neckline because evenings had been...

wwkw: walking with friends in Krakow
Although sunny, it was a tad chilly out so before meeting my friends to explore the city, I changed out of my travel clothes and into this outfit. The denim jacket provided a bit of extra warmth and I kinda like how it tied the outfit together too!
These photos are taken outside the church of Saints Peter and Paul, where my best friend was married on Saturday.

Except when traipsing around the forests of Finland?
Well, first off, check out my awesome hair - this is how it looks if I’ve gone to bed with wet hair and not bothered to do anything about it. My Finnish aunt would call me a peikko, or troll, if she saw me like this. And then you’ve got the fabulous outfit: oversized t-shirt, purple wool sweater, vest, leggings, old New Balances -...

wwkw: European vacation, the highlights
I just returned from my 11-day vacation to Finland and Poland and before I go have one last “I’m on vacation” dinner with my boyfriend, I thought I’d share some highlights with you – first fashion highlights (I’m just reporting what I saw…) and then some personal trip highlights that I thought you might enjoy as well.
Finnish fashion highlights:
Hair styling and dyeing – Finns are quite a...

wwkw to a island fortress?
Good walking shoes… and something cool for when it’s really warm and sunny out.
It was a gorgeous, sunny, unbelievably beautiful Finnish summer day and we went to Suomenlinna - the Finnish fortress island just a few minnute boat ride from Helsinki. Birks were an absolute necessity since the ground was sandy, rocky, grassy and we were going to be doing a lot of walking. I love this...

Finnish and fabulous
My mom threw me a belated 25th birthday party in Finland this weekend. Finnish friends, family and neighbors all showed up to a semi-gorgeous day, fabulous music, amazing speeches (even one by your very own blogtress), and delicious food. Below… what I wore:
The only reason I’m even able to blog about this right now is because I’m still at the hotel where we had the...
wwkw: European Vacation
As I said in my previous post I’m off to Finland and Poland for 10 days and although Finland has been named one of the technologically most advanced countries in the world, I’ll be roughing it a bit in the middle of nowhere with, GASP, dial-up. Which means my photo uploading may be limited and I might take a few days break from blogging anyways. So, just wanted to give you all the...

it's not easy being green
Except when you’re about to take off for a 10-day European vacation. This outfit was inspired by the fact that I’m spending half the day at work, leaving at three and then spending eight hours on an airplane to Helsinki. I was going for comfort, comfort, comfort. Linen pants are perfect for long flights, as is the stretchy cotton tee. The pearls, jacket and heels I’m leaving...

wwkw: revitalize
Necklaces are awesome. Enough said. This is why you should get the most out of the necklaces you own by knowing how to play with them, shorten them, knot them and twist them to create new looks out of the same ole things. The more I experiment, the more interesting things I come up with! Check it out:
Lesson 1: Play with pearls!
I mean, look at the way the gray, pink and ivory pearls combine...
