My Finnish Christmas explained
We always dress up for Christmas Eve dinner.  Always.  Even when I’m sick and coughy and congested and my nose is running all over the dinner table (ok, I prevented that with tissues).  Knowing I was not feeling my best this year, I chose something simple and easy to wear and added the red scarf to make it a bit Christmasy.  Check out how I wrapped the gold necklace around the scarf for some...

Is it sometimes worth it to sacrifice a bit of...
For example, you’ve been looking for a thick, dark-colored 100% cashmere cowl-neck sweater but can’t seem to find one.  You come across a grey version of the sweater you’re looking for: it’s the highest quality for a great price, it fits well but you’ve always said grey isn’t really your color.  Do you get it knowing that because it’s (almost) everything you hoped for, it’ll become a staple in...

I celebrate Christmas... Finnish style
We have our big dinner on Christmas Eve with lots of Finnish foods: herring, lox, boiled potatoes, carrot, rutabaga and potato casseroles, turkey (that’s the American part of the evening… in Finland it would be ham), and Christmas stars for dessert. Don’t worry, I’ll take some photos of all this Finnish deliciousness to share with you… but probably after Christmas so...

Yes, I'm wearing leather to work...
Would you? I tried to pair it with softer colors and such so it wouldn’t scream LEATHER!!!  Plus it’s an A-line, which I feel is the most conservative.  But let’s be honest, I totally bought it (HousingWorks like $40ish) and wore it just to say that I got away with wearing leather to work :-) I think I’m trying to show off my (really my roommate’s) awesome tights...

get organized
Recently I’ve been in major life-purge, organize mode… throwing stuff out, organizing closets, my room, my desk at work, my boyfriend’s closets.  You name it, I’ve been organizing it.  Thing is, I LOVE being organized but I usually can’t stay that way for more than a few days so I’m really trying my hardest get things in a way to make it easy to STAY organized. ...

winterize a summer/fall dress
This dress may have fall and winter tones but it is made of a light silk and so for a cold winter day, it is definitely not warm enough.  What to do?  Add layers. The black shirt and boots darken the look and add warmth and the opaque brown tights tie back to the gold, orange and ivory tones in the dress… too much black would have come off too heavy I think.  For even more warmth, go with a...

coupons... need some? I got some
So I’m kinda done with the whole over-commercialized Christmas thing and that people are buying presents for everyone and then some… the stress of it, the madness, the crazy shoppers… I just like spending time with my friends and family and would rather give them something when in the middle of the summer or on a random April day then during the Holidays when no one is paying...

how much do I love color?
This pretty much says it all: that’s mini-me in the second photo :-) And can we talk about my new (thrifted) wool fuschia Diane von Fürstenberg skirt that I snagged from HousingWorks this weekend for $30ish. DVF sure does know how to cut a good looking piece of clothing: And, since the temperature in my office varies from sauna-hot one day to ice-bucket-cold the next, I have learned...

Forbes article: Think Looks Don't Matter? Think... →
This article only gives the statistical proof to what most of us already know from personal experience, friend’s horror stories, or just a general sense of things: looks do matter.  The gist of it?  Tall women earn more than shorter women, beautiful women more than average looking ones (but not necessarily more than “perfect” looking ones… asymmetry is good!), the...

what once was lost, now is found
I didn’t exactly lose this sweater but I definitely misplaced it in the chaos that can be my boyfriend’s apartment.  Also, the long sweater thing was kinda out for a while and I bought this thing back in my early college days, so I was ok with not having it around for a while.  Friday at work came around and I was struggling with coming up with an interesting outfit to wear out of the...

what did I end up wearing to my company's Rock...
Nothing from the bunch of choices I laid out in last week’s blog post on what to wear to your company holiday party… but something very similar.  I went with the fun, fabulous jacket and pants and made it even more “holiday” by layering up on the necklaces.  And, a big plus, I was able to wear my purple patent leather kitten heels, which are way more comfortable than higher...
