Vino y Chocolate: a fundraiser for BECA
Join me this Friday, April 1 at at Trinity Wall Street Parish Hall (74 Trinity Place)to support BECA—an amazing organization that recruits, trains, and supports native English-speaking volunteer teachers to staff a network of community-run bilingual schools in Honduras that serve low-income communities. This event is targeted towards New York professionals who have both philanthropic...

teal-ometric!
This black and white jacket is so fabulous because I can wear it in winter or in summer with white pants or a white skirt, with capris and heels as a more serious suit with black pants… and it was only $80… WITH PANTS!
I like this outfit because it’s pieced together from so many different purchases and styles of clothing I’ve gone through. The top is from Old Navy - this...

twinsies, sorta
I mentioned several months ago that I was looking for a new suit and that I was willing to pay so that it fit well and was extremely versatile in its uses. I got that suit and it was Theory. In fact, I got three pieces: a blazer and two different styles of pants, and I wear all the pieces all the time.
The great thing about Theory suits is that even though they’re relatively expensive,...

tip of the week: dig through old stuff
If your mom or aunt or neighbor has been working in corporate America, chances are she probably has some pretty sweet pieces that a) no longer fit or b) she can no longer pull off. Go raid her closet! If you have none of these ladies in your life, visit Housing Works for a great array of well-priced, used, high-end clothes!
My mom had to convince me to take a look at her old(er) suits and...

winter wonderland of fabrics
One of the things I love most about winter is the array of fabrics available for wear. They’re thick, sturdy, soft, envelopping. And the colors are rich and warm. I bought this teal skirt (originally I thought it would be navy) from J. Crew with a coupon and since it arrived in the mail a few months ago, it’s been high on my wear-list each week. I paired it with the soft draped...
taking the hint
So I blogged several times last year about all the one-piece ski suits making their way around Stratton, Vail, Breckenridge… pretty much every place I skied, there they were in their neon fabulousness. Well, I must have talked about those ski suits a lot because at the start of ski season, my boyfriend Jay tells me he has an EBay surprise for me. Can you guess what that $15 EBay surprise...

I mean, look at how excited I am in th is photo? Jenny, my cousin visiting from Finland for the week, is more like “why did I travel all this way to feel just like I’m back in Finland???”

that same d%&n sweater
Yup, it’s that same one that I bought just before Christmas from J. Crew again. But it’s so useful and so versatile and so soft! I’m tempted to wear it every day, but that would get boring.
A few tips for cashmere:
Wear a camisole or even better a tee underneath so that there’s less skin-to-cashmere contact. This way, you’ll get more wears before washing and...

Inspired by my co-worker and fellow blogger, Adriane, of The Kissters.
We all like looking fabulous and not spending a lot of money to do so. But how to do that? I’m constantly inspired by other fasion bloggers, co-workers, friends and the ways they’re making the biggest bang from their bucks and looking amazing doing it.
Check out what Adriane’s done with this gold...

Sgt. Pepper & Madame Salt
New Year’s Eve is the best time to dress up, dress festively and dress just a tad funky. Which is just what my lovely friend Michelle did with her awesome layered look. Sparkly skirt (pretty much a NYE necessity) with a flowy top and vest paired with dark tights and booties: she looked fantastic (as usual).
And then there was me in my Sgt. Pepper ensemble, which I grabbed from my...

princess at Christmas
My family tradition is to dress up at Christmas. This year, I took it to the next level (and shopped in my mom’s fabulous closet to do so). Best part? She let me keep the skirt!
This sweater is a new purchase from J. Crew. 100% cashmere, it is soft, elegant and can be worn with just about anthing, from a ballgown skirt to jeans and boots. The cowl neck really makes it! Although I did...

Also read the WSJ article on UBS’ Swiss dress code… which not only tells employees how to dress, but also “provides detailed tips on hygiene and personal grooming, ranging from appropriate hair dyes and accessories to underwear and socks.” Maybe you shouldn’t be working at UBS if someone needs to talk to you about your underwear? Just a thought… Read the...

schoonering anyone?
Color in summer is yummy. This jacket is different because it actually has belt loops, enabling all sorts of fun and interesting looks. Yesterday I opted for a silk scarf-as-a-belt look, which picked up the navies of the jacket and complemented the teal of the silk blouse with a lime and orange. So yes, I may look like I’m headed schoonering like my office mates call it, but it’s...

everyone should own a white button down
Why? Because they are so versatile!
wear em tucked into a skirt
wear em tucked out and belted
wear em with the collar popped
wear em with jeans and a blazer
wear em layered under a sleeveless or wrap dress
wear em tied up in a knot with shorts
wear em with a ballgown skirt to a black tie event (hello Sharon Stone!)
Get my point? Get yourself a crisp white button down and wear away. And...

HOT
I’ve been melting for the last two weeks (with a few days reprieve in Charleston, where surprisingly, it was LESS HOT and LESS HUMID than New York). Anyone else melting with me?
I’ve been wearing a lot of skirts and a lot of layers - tank tops on the train which I top with jackets and cardis at the office. And I of course love summer because of all the bright colors! Like lime...

Lida Orzeck of Hanky Panky speaks with BBPW

Led by ‘04 grad Shira Silberg who worked at Hanky Panky for several years after graduating, the discussion touched on everything from the company name, to how Lida and partner Gail Epstein developed...

NYT article re: convertible clothing... would you... →
JNBY sells clothes than can be worn this way, that way, a third way, upside down way. Would you pay a few hundo for something so versatile? I might… depending on how good it looked each and every way. Check out the article or their SOHO store (or I guess they have a bunch of others all over the country): 75 Greene Street (near Spring Street); (212) 219-2529. I think I might!

a belt makes all the difference
This is a relatively non-exciting outfit; twill pants with a hint of pinstripe, white ruffly shirt and a nicely structured navy jacket. Summery, work-appropriate, exceedingly simple. But, add an interesting belt with a pop of color and the outfit steps up to a whole new level.
navy blazer - Zac posen, bought from a friend - $65 I think? white ruffled blouse - LOFT, on sale - $25ish?...

Someone (a vendor I work with actually) emailed me the other day and said: “Random question…but how big is your closet?????? I can’t help but wonder how you never duplicate outfits…”

And I have a butt, which makes all the pants crinkle in weird ways right in my crotchal area. NOT flattering for work (or anywhere really). I’m thinking about buying pants a few sizes too big in the waist and then having them altered. Have any of you had good/bad experiences with that?

dressing for spring can be hard
When the temperature fluctuates between oh say 85 and 55 any given week. This particular day (like 2 weeks ago… yes, that’s how far behind I am on blogging), it was 85 degrees but I dressed more for a cooler 65. I was really excited about the outfit I put together yesterday. It started with a whole black and slightly off-white combo with color in the scarf and the belt picking up the brown in the scarf. Different for me all these browns and blacks and things but I was very pleased with myself.

As a discount shopper, good customer service isn’t necessarily a huge part of my shopping vocabulary. I got a last minute invite to the IR Magazine Awards dinner last Wednesday night… the invitation said black tie optional. What does that mean? Here’s how I evaluated the situation and determined what to wear

this gal's version of the everyday office guy look
Most of the gentlemen at my company wear suits to work every day, but the minute they step in the door, they remove their jackets. So the look is the shirt, tie, pants look. This is my version: structured blouse, silk scarf hanging tie-like, suit pants and belt. Business, classic, easy.

burning it up orange
Burnt orange is my new flave. When I bought that gorgeous silk ruffly blouse on Friday and wore it Saturday, I started thinking about other things I have in this unusual for me, but surprisingly flattering color: this short-sleeved collared blouse popped into mind and then onto body Monday morning.
This color orange can be a bit of a challenge. The silk worked really well with all black/grey...

First, I’d like to disclaim: I...
